Yesterday Sport Express newspaper reported that several days before the U20 WJC, Washington Capitals forward Alexander Semin was cut by the team’s head coach, Alexander Ishmatov. Yesterday, the head coach changed his mind, reversing a potentially mortal decision for Russia’s U20 squad.
Semin commented the follows to SE correspondent Alexander Shapiro: “When you called earlier, I chose not to comment on the situation, hoping that I would remain with the squad. I am grateful to the guys, who were able to convince the coach that I am needed by the team...Of course I was very disappointed.[when I was cut – Author] Especially, since the formulation that I violated the team rules. I am honestly happy, that the coach changed his mind. I always dreamed to play for the Russian national team at the U20 WJC.”
