mattias - 74: En artikel från Wall Street Journal om NHL:s försök att locka fler kändisar till matcherna.

"The celebrity push is part of the league's effort to combat the notion that it's an also-ran among pro sports. By some measures, it doesn't have the mass appeal of football or the deep tradition of baseball, and is often associated with fans in Canadian and northern U.S. cities. Its television exposure is limited, with games shown on OLN (formerly the Outdoor Life Network), available to 63 million homes, instead of on ESPN, which is in 90 million homes.

And while basketball has big names who show up regularly courtside -- Jack Nicholson in Los Angeles, Spike Lee in New York -- hockey hasn't had the degree of star power that has helped other pro sports generate buzz.

The NHL believes some of hockey's struggles are rooted not in the sport itself, but in Americans' relative lack of exposure to it. By aligning itself with the celebrities who influence where the coveted 18-34 demographic spends its money and what it watches on TV, the league is betting it can fill more seats and boost ratings. That can ultimately lead to higher broadcast rights fees, advertising and sponsorships."
