Wilson Jr., on if the San Jose Sharks' expectation is that Jonathan Dahlen comes over next year and competes for an NHL job:
We actually had a FaceTime with Jonathan Dahlen yesterday and it went really well. He looks great.
It's always nice – when we do these interviews at the Draft, you talk to young guys, [the question always is], what do you want to do? And they always say, Oh, I want to go back be a leader and win championships and they speak in generalities.
Jonathan is a very high IQ player. He's a hockey rat. We've worked with him over the last few years and he told us the way Swedish hockey works.
[He told us,] I want to see Timra promoted. I want to be a part of it. I want to wear letter. I want to be a leading score and I want to get our team a championship. And you have to give the kid credit. He goes back. He was a leading scorer. He played on the Swedish National Team. And he did get the team promoted as the leading scorer in the playoffs.
There's a difference between speaking in generalities and having a plan and sticking to it and actually being able to accomplish it. So we're very happy with Jonathan.
His next role is to come compete at the NHL level.
Bob Boughner is a great coach for him. We brought in Barabanov, we brought in Balcers, similar players who had history against men in top leagues in Europe and international experience, and Boogie put them in spots to succeed. We were fortunate to find two top-nine forwards that way, relatively inexpensive.
Jonathan isn't going to be given anything, he knows that. He has to earn an NHL opportunity. The time is now to do that. And he's on board with that.
