Officials in the U.S. state of Colorado have declared tofu to be - this is the really hard part to believe -- X-rated!
Can you believe it?!
How could anyone in their right mind consider those little cakes made from soy beans to be X-rated?
It started with a 38-year-old woman in Colorado, a woman in love with tofu.
According to news reports out of Colorado, the woman wanted to tell the world about her fondness for bean curd (i.e. tofu) by getting a personalized license plate for her SUV.
She wanted her license plate to read: "ILVTOFU".
Clever, eh? Don't answer that.
Officials at Colorado's Division of Motor Vehicles apparently didn't think it was clever. They rejected her personalized license plate because they thought the combination of letters could be interpreted as profane.
"We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex," Colorado Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch explained to reporters.
The 38-year-old woman told reporters that tofu is a staple of her family's diet because they are vegetarians and that the DMV misinterpreted her message.
